4126-11 Metal Polisher
Polishing metal to impart smooth, reflective or other finishes.
4126-11 Metal Polisher Skill Level:
An AQF Certificate III or higher qualification is required.
4126-11 Metal Polisher Tasks Include:
- polishing and buffing sheet and other metal using processes such as emery buffing, grease mopping, burnishing and scratch brushing
- selecting continuous abrasive bands or polishing heads, such as wire brushes, wheels or bobs of felt, leather or fibre, or polishing mops of calico, cotton or chamois
- positioning and attaching polishing heads to machines
- setting controls to regulate speeds and angles of polishing heads and feeding rate of lubricants
- dressing polishing heads with abrasives or finishing materials such as emery, grease or rouge, or applying buffing compounds to surfaces to be polished
- operating controls to rotate polishing heads
- holding surfaces against polishing heads until desired finishes are obtained
- removing imperfections or polishing less accessible areas by hand
