4123-13 Farrier
Inspecting, trimming and shaping horse's hooves, and forming, fitting and nailing horseshoes.
4123-13 Farrier Skill Level:
An AQF Certificate III or higher qualification is required.
4123-13 Farrier Tasks Include:
- inspecting horses to check for deviations in motion, interference, peculiarities in gait or abnormalities in size and shape of hooves
- removing worn or defective shoes
- trimming and shaping hooves
- measuring hooves and estimating metal requirements
- making shoes by heating, shaping and hammering and fitting them to horse's hooves
- may be specialising in corrective or surgical shoeing
