4122-13 Pressure Welder
Assembling, welding and repairing pressure vessels and pipes to pressure test standards.
4122-13 Pressure Welder Skill Level:
An AQF Certificate III or higher qualification is required. Registration or licensing may be required.
4122-13 Pressure Welder Tasks Include:
- studying drawings or specifications to determine job requirements
- cleaning and preparing metal surfaces by gouging, bevelling, grinding or filing
- cutting metal shapes using thermal cutting equipment
- aligning surfaces to be joined and secures by tack-welding or jigging
- selecting welding techniques appropriate to type and thickness of metal
- connecting electrode holders to power sources and adjusting controls on electrode holders or welding equipment to regulate currents
- forming arcs which generate heat to melt metal from electrodes, and depositing metal on work pieces to fuse joints
- guiding electrodes along weld lines
- cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling or grinding, and examining welds for width of bead, penetration and precision
- cutting metal shapes using thermal cutting equipment
- may be welding mild steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminium and copper
