4121-11 General Fabrication Engineering Tradesperson
Manipulating and forming sheet metal, structural steel and other metal stock to fabricate, maintain or repair metal products and structures.
4121-11 General Fabrication Engineering Tradesperson Skill Level:
An AQF Certificate III or higher qualification is required.
4121-11 General Fabrication Engineering Tradesperson Tasks Include:
- reading and interpreting drawings and specifications
- cutting, rolling, bending, shapeing, moulding, spinning, heating or hammering metal products to fabricate parts or sub-assemblies
- heating and treating metal parts and components
- setting up and operating welding equipment to complete welding tasks
- fitting and assembling metallic components by riveting, bolting, welding, brazing or soldering
- finishing products by cleaning, polishing, filling or bathing them in acidic solutions
- measuring quality of fabricated parts or sub-assemblies
- marking out metal stock with reference points and lining and making templates
- may be setting up and operating spinning lathes to spin shaped articles from sheet or structural metal
- may be planning, laying out and fabricating mould patterns for producing metal castings and forming sand moulds and cores for the production of metal castings
