3493-11 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker
Liaising with patients, clients and visitors to hospitals and health clinics and works as a team member to arrange, coordinate and provide health care delivery in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community health clinics.
3493-11 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Skill Level:
An AQF Diploma or higher qualification or at least 3 years relevant experience is required. Sometimes relevant experience is required in addition to the formal qualification. Registration or licensing may be required.
3493-11 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Tasks Include:
- maintaining health records and statistics
- acting as an advocate in the community they serve
- acting as a communicator and interpreter on behalf of clients and other health personnel
- providing clinical functions, including case management and follow-up, independently or in consultation with other health care providers
- providing health education to individual clients and health staff
- providing cultural education to persons outside the cultural community and life skills education to the community they serve
- providing counselling and referral for crisis problem cases
- providing input to the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all health programs in the community
- may be performing a management role, providing staff counselling, facilitation, orientation, induction and development
- may be carrying out administrative duties including budgeting and correspondence
- may be liaising with government and non-government agencies
