Diagnosing, treating and preventing human physical and mental disorders and injuries.
2311-11 General Medical Practitioner Skill Level:
A bachelor degree or higher qualification and one years hospital-based training is required. Registration or licensing is required.
2311-11 General Medical Practitioner Tasks Include:
- conducting examinations and questions patients to determine the nature of disorders or illnesses and recording patients' medical information
- ordering and performing laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic images and procedures and analyses findings
- providing overall care for patients and prescribing and administering treatments, medications and other remedial measures
- inoculating patients to prevent communicable diseases
- advising patients on diet, exercise, hygiene and other health matters
- providing pre and post-natal care
- reporting births, deaths and notifiable diseases to government authorities
- referring patients to medical specialists and exchanging relevant medical details
- arranging the admission of patients to hospital
- may be delivering babies or performing minor surgical procedures
