2299-15 Archivist
Planning and organising systems and procedures for the safekeeping of records and historically valuable documents.
2299-15 Archivist Skill Level:
A bachelor degree or higher qualification or at least 5 years relevant experience is required. In some instances relevant experience is required in addition to the formal qualification.
2299-15 Archivist Tasks Include:
- evaluating and preserving records for legal, administrative, evidential, historical and other purposes
- preparing record-keeping systems, indexes, guides and procedures for archival research and for the retention or destruction of records
- assessing records maintained by organisations and individuals and negotiates for their transfer to archival custody
- directs processes for the cataloguing, conservation, restoration and destruction of records
- administering access provisions laid down by legislation, organisational regulations and depositors' directions
- selecting documents for reproduction, publication and display
- providing policy and technical advice on the management of records
- may be assisting users in the interpretation of record-keeping systems
- may be directing the activities of library and conservation staff
- may be participating in staff supervision, selection and training
