2231-11 Systems Manager
Controlling the operating effectiveness of information technology systems, and arranging system maintenance and enhancements to meet user requirements.
2231-11 Systems Manager Skill Level:
A bachelor degree or higher qualification or at least 5 years relevant experience is required. In some instances relevant experience is required in addition to the formal qualification.
2231-11 Systems Manager Tasks Include:
- consulting with administrative and technical staff to determine information needs, data flows and system definitions
- establishing and controlling system access and security
- coordinating protocols for operation within multi-user information technology networks providing voice, data and text transmission
- monitoring and optimising system performance and initiating recoveries after system failures
- implementing data back-up and other system housekeeping procedures
- managing the distribution and retention of data on storage devices
- coordinating system updates and replacement of old versions
- maintaining data dictionaries and advising users on data structures and terminology
- assisting in testing new equipment and systems
- preparing technical reports on the operation of systems
- estimating costs of systems and preparing cost-benefit analyses
- may be coordinating the work of support staff
- may be providing training in system use and access
