1292-11 Director of Nursing
Senior Nurse Manager
Directing and managing nursing programs and clinical services in hospitals, nursing homes and other health service facilities and maintaining standards of nursing care.
1292-11 Director of Nursing Skill Level:
A bachelor degree or higher qualification and at least 5 years relevant experience is required. In some instances relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification. Registration or licensing is required.
1292-11 Director of Nursing Tasks Include:
- determining the nursing policies of the hospital or health service facility and developing organisational structure and standards of performance
- directing nursing staff
- interpreting policies, procedures and objectives of the nursing service to medical and administrative staff and community groups
- promoting working relationships with community agencies
- preparing or assisting in the preparation of the nursing budget and contributing to the overall organisational budget
- establishing personnel qualification requirements, directing the preparation of procedure manuals and implements records and reporting systems
- initiating studies to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing services in the organisation in relation to objectives, costs, and nursing care
- may be directing on-site nursing education programs and may be assisting with nursing curriculum
