Planning, organising and administering the operations of a business which imports or exports goods.
1192-11 Importer,Exporter Skill Level:
A bachelor degree or higher qualification or at least 5 years relevant experience is required. In some instances relevant experience is required in addition to the formal qualification.
1192-11 Importer,Exporter Tasks Include:
- identifying local and overseas business opportunities and determining the mix of products and services to be provided and negotiating conditions of sale with producers
- researching regulatory and statutory requirements affecting the import and export of goods to and from Australia
- liaising with customs officers and other government representatives to ensure that goods being imported are legal, and meet Australian standards
- developing a business plan and implementing marketing, operating, personnel, pricing and credit policy and procedures
- appointing agents and/or distributors
- arranging the shipping of goods to and from Australia
- monitoring the performance of the business and preparing estimates, financial statements and reports of import-export operations
- may be providing quotes to customers and organising promotional campaigns for the business or for customers' products
